Letter to the President:

Dear Mr. Gary Waddell,
President
Island Park Towers Residents' Association

I am writing to you on behalf of Ecology Ottawa to ask the Island Park Towers Residents' Association to support the City of Ottawa’s efforts to clean up the Ottawa River. The City of Ottawa dumps over 400 million litres of untreated sewage directly into the Ottawa River each year, but they have a plan – called the Ottawa River Action Plan - to prevent this from happening in the future. In order for the plan to move forward, it needs municipal, provincial and federal support. The city and the province have both agreed to commit their share of the money to implement the plan, and people across the city are now calling on the federal government to include its share of the money in the upcoming 2012 federal budget.

The Lowertown Community Association has written a letter to their Member of Parliament urging him to support funding for the Ottawa River Action Plan (find attached). Ecology Ottawa has volunteered to approach other community associations in the City of Ottawa to see if they would consider writing a similar letter. We have also produced an on-line letter writing campaign and are encouraging individual Ottawa residents to use this on-line service to let Ottawa-area MPs know that they support efforts to keep sewage out of the river.

The letter from the Lowertown Community Association is attached. Would your community association consider sending a similar letter and/ or circulate our action alert?

The draft action alert can be found below in this email, and the on-line letter can be found at:

Would the Island Park Towers Residents' Association consider circulating this action alert in your community? It takes under a minute to complete.

We would be happy to attend one of your meetings to discuss this further or provide any additional information that you would find helpful. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

We’ll give you a call to make sure that this email has reached you safely.

Sincerely,

Sarah Sayed
